John Waters, the renowned director known for his transgressive films, is set to return to the director’s chair with an adaptation of his first novel, “Liarmouth.” The book, released in 2022, follows the story of Marsha Sprinkle, a compulsive liar and con artist on the run. The film will star Aubrey Plaza, known for her roles in Parks and Recreation and The White Lotus.
Waters, a pioneer of black comedy and LGBTQ+ advocacy in cinema, has a long history of pushing boundaries with his films like Pink Flamingos and Hairspray. After a 20-year hiatus since his last film, A Dirty Shame, Waters is excited to bring his signature style of violence and post-modern comedy to Liarmouth.
Filming is set to begin later this year in Baltimore, Maryland, Waters’ home city and a backdrop for many of his films. Plaza’s recent success in films like Ingrid Goes West and Black Bear makes her the perfect choice for the role of Marsha Sprinkle.
Although no release date has been announced for Liarmouth, fans are eager to see what Waters has in store for this adaptation. With Plaza’s talent and Waters’ unique vision, the film is sure to be a treat for audiences. Stay tuned for more updates on this highly anticipated project.
