Judge orders Rudy Giuliani to expedite $148M payment to Georgia election workers due to ‘good cause’ preventing him from paying

A federal judge has granted two former Georgia election workers’ request to expedite their $148 million payment from Rudy Giuliani. The former New York City mayor was ordered to pay this amount to the mother and daughter, Ruby Freeman and Shay Moss, for falsely accusing them of voter fraud during the 2020 election. Concerned that Giuliani might try to dissipate his assets before they could recover the money, Freeman and Moss requested immediate enforcement of the judgment. Judge Beryl Howell sided with them, citing Giuliani’s reputation as an uncooperative litigant. The jury awarded $75 million in punitive damages and $20 million each for emotional distress to Moss and Freeman. Giuliani plans to appeal the decision and has expressed his intention to fight the case until the end.

Giuliani’s attorney called the ruling a death penalty for his client if he fails to win the appeal. The lawsuit stemmed from Giuliani’s false claims about election fraud, which led to threats and racist attacks against Freeman and Moss. Giuliani was found liable for defamation after refusing to disclose evidence and making baseless accusations. The Georgia State Election Board had previously dismissed the fraud claims, and Freeman and Moss have now sued Giuliani again for a permanent injunction to stop him from spreading lies about them. The press reached out to Giuliani’s attorneys for comment on the recent ruling.
