After 25 years of serving the community, Sam & Andy’s Fountain City has closed its doors. Owner Chris Captain made the difficult decision to close the location due to challenges such as a lack of new employees and personal struggles caring for a loved one. The Fountain City location had been a staple in the community since 1998, but with the closure, the focus will shift to the new Sam & Andy’s Bexhill location.
Located on Bexhill Drive, the Bexhill restaurant opened in December 2023 with the goal of being a neighborhood establishment. Despite facing unforeseen challenges, Captain remains committed to upholding the principles of good food, service, and pricing that his father instilled in him. The Bexhill menu features classics such as steamed sandwiches and burgers, as well as a new milkshake bar.
Sam & Andy’s is a longstanding name in Knoxville, with the original location opening on Cumberland Avenue in 1946. Captain’s father, George John Captain, owns Sam & Andy’s West in Farragut, carrying on the family legacy of great food and service. While closing the Fountain City location was a tough decision, Captain remains optimistic about the future of Sam & Andy’s, aiming to continue the tradition for another 80 years.
Sam & Andy’s Bexhill is open for business Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. For more information, readers can reach out to Keenan Thomas at keenan.thomas@knoxnews.com, a reporter covering business growth and development for Knox News.
