The escalating cross-border clashes between Israel and Lebanon have resulted in at least two people being killed in Lebanon’s south after Israeli strikes. Hamas fighters in Lebanon fired rockets towards northern Israel in retaliation for Israeli attacks in Gaza. The conflict has been ongoing since Israel launched a war on Gaza on October 7, with Palestinian groups in Lebanon also participating in attacks. The death toll in Gaza has exceeded 30,000, with daily skirmishes occurring along the Israel-Lebanon border.
The latest attack from south Lebanon targeted Israeli military sites, resulting in property damage but no casualties on the Israeli side. The Israeli military responded by intercepting the rockets and striking the sources of fire in Lebanon. This exchange of fire has led to the deaths of at least 286 people in Lebanon and multiple casualties on the Israeli side.
The situation remains tense, with fears of an all-out war on Israel’s northern border with Lebanon. Thousands of people in border regions have been displaced due to the continuing clashes. A US defense official confirmed that a strike in January, attributed to Israel, killed a high-ranking Hamas leader in south Beirut. The conflict shows no signs of abating, with both sides continuing to exchange fire and casualties mounting on both sides.
