Tennessee lawmakers find themselves at odds over two different proposals for an education voucher program. Speaker of the House Cameron Sexton revealed the House’s plan on Monday, which includes a voucher scholarship for private school families as well as other educational initiatives. However, the Senate has its own proposal without any additional provisions. The estimated cost of the House bill is around $425 million for the state, with $195 million in additional funds for local school districts. While the Senate appears to have reservations about the House’s plan, Senate Education Chair Jon Lundberg insists that the chambers are not as far apart as it seems.

Sexton stresses the need for comprehensive changes to benefit K-12 education in the state.
