The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to decide on whether former President Donald Trump can be prosecuted for interference in the 2020 election, with a decision expected by the end of June. Trump’s lawyers argue that he should be immune from criminal prosecution for actions taken while in office. Lower courts rejected this claim and allowed prosecution to proceed. The case is separate from Trump’s appeal to remain on the presidential ballot. Trump faces multiple prosecutions in connection with the election interference, hush money payments, illegally retaining classified documents, and scheming to subvert Georgia’s election. The Supreme Court is also set to hear an appeal from one of the more than 1,200 people charged in the Capitol riot. The decision by the Supreme Court could have significant implications for Trump and the other defendants in the cases. The trial is scheduled to begin in late March and May for the various charges Trump faces. Despite the legal challenges, Trump continues to deny any wrongdoing. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
