LeBron James of the LA Lakers made history by becoming the first NBA player to reach 40,000 career points during a game against the Denver Nuggets. Despite the milestone, James described the achievement as “bittersweet” as it came in a losing effort. The 39-year-old forward finished the game with 26 points, but the Lakers fell to the Nuggets 124-114. James now holds the title of the NBA’s all-time scoring leader, surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in February 2022.
James, a four-time NBA champion and four-time NBA Most Valuable Player, is currently in his 21st season in the league. He has been on a scoring streak recently with an average of 30.8 points over his last four games. Throughout his career, James has achieved several scoring milestones, including reaching 10,000 points in 2008 and 30,000 points in 2018.
Lakers coach Darvin Ham praised James for his accomplishment, calling it a “hell of an accomplishment” and acknowledging his amazing career. The crowd gave James a standing ovation during the game, and the ball he used to score his 40,000th point was removed from play. Despite the loss, James expressed gratitude for the milestone and the support from fans.
