Shehbaz Sharif has been elected as Pakistan’s new prime minister, facing significant challenges both within and outside of the country. An IMF bailout negotiated during Sharif’s previous term is set to expire, requiring him to strike another deal while addressing rising living costs. As Sharif took office, protests erupted in parliament from Khan’s supporters, accusing him of being a “vote thief”. Despite offering reconciliation, his words fell on deaf ears as shouting continued.
The new premier has called for unity to work towards Pakistan’s progress, with a focus on improving the country’s economy, security, and infrastructure. His leadership will be tested by the complex challenges facing Pakistan, signaling a tumultuous road ahead for Sharif’s government.
