A Spanish tourist was allegedly gang-raped in the Dumka district of India’s Jharkhand state while travelling with her husband. The couple had stopped in Dumka during their cycling trip to Nepal when several youths broke into their tent, assaulted the woman, and used physical violence. Three people have been arrested so far, with more suspects being investigated by authorities.
The victim was admitted to a local health center for medical treatment following the assault and is undergoing examinations at a nearby hospital. The incident has sparked outrage, with regional minister Mithilesh Kumar Thakur condemning the attack and assuring that the perpetrators will face justice.
The Spanish embassy in India has also gotten involved, contacting local authorities and sending personnel to assist in the region. The assault has raised concerns about the safety of tourists in popular destinations like Dumka and the need for proper security measures to prevent such incidents from happening again. The investigation is ongoing, and the victim is receiving support from both Indian and Spanish authorities.
