Israeli airstrike kills 17 Palestinians in Khan Younis

An Israeli airstrike in Khan Younis, Gaza killed at least 17 people, including children, as talks on a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas failed to secure a breakthrough. The Palestinian death toll from the ongoing conflict has risen to over 30,000, with women and children making up two-thirds of the casualties. The United States and Jordan have conducted a second humanitarian aid airdrop over northern Gaza, where up to 300,000 Palestinians are facing food shortages due to the blockade. Aid groups report that distribution of food aid in the area has become almost impossible due to the ongoing hostilities and breakdown of security. UNICEF has reported that at least 10 children have died in northern Gaza from malnutrition and dehydration, with more children at risk of death in hospitals. The organization has called the deaths “man-made, predictable, and entirely preventable.” The situation in Gaza is dire, with over 576,000 people – a quarter of the population – on the brink of famine, and one in six children under 2 suffering from acute malnutrition, especially in northern Gaza. The conflict continues to escalate, with no immediate solutions in sight for the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the region.
