Ten years ago, on March 8, 2014, Herlina Panjaitan’s son, Firman Chandra Siregar, went missing aboard Malaysia Airlines flight MH370. To this day, Panjaitan has kept the same phone number, hoping that her son might call her. Siregar, a young Indonesian man on his way to Beijing for a new job, was the youngest of five children and described as “the best child” by his mother. Despite the passage of time and the lack of answers surrounding MH370’s disappearance, Panjaitan clings to hope that her son is still alive.
Panjaitan and her family have endured a decade of uncertainty, fueled by endless speculation about what might have happened to the missing plane. While some theories suggest deliberate actions by the pilot or hijacking scenarios, no definitive answers have been found. Various search efforts, including a costly underwater search, have yielded no concrete results.
As the 10th anniversary of MH370 approaches, Malaysian authorities have expressed willingness to reopen investigations if new evidence emerges. Panjaitan and her family eagerly welcome any efforts to shed light on the mystery surrounding their son’s disappearance, holding on to the hope that he may still be found alive. Despite the lack of closure, Panjaitan remains determined to be reunited with her son, ready to embrace him with a big hug when they are finally reunited.
