Raiders come from behind to claim victory in conference opener after extra innings

Middle Tennessee softball opened conference play with a thrilling win on the road at UTEP. Ansley Blevins hit a crucial home run in the eighth inning to secure the victory. UTEP had taken an early lead with a solo shot from Ajia Richard, but Middle Tennessee fought back with key hits from Shelby Sargent and Bryanna Coffman. The game went into extras after UTEP tied the score in the seventh, but Blevins’ home run in the eighth proved to be the difference maker. Pitcher Carcich and Mary Martinez combined to limit UTEP to just four hits and three runs. This win extended Middle Tennessee’s winning streak to six games. Harris extended her on-base streak to 19 games, while Blevins’ four home runs lead the team. The Blue Raiders will face UTEP again in the second game of the series.
