Celebrities Blacklisted from the 2024 Oscars

The 96th Academy Awards is set to take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, on Sunday, March 10. Ahead of the prestigious awards show, here’s a list of celebrities who have been banned from attending or being nominated at the Oscars. The recent addition to the list was Will Smith, who was banned after slapping Chris Rock in 2022.

In 2017, former film producer Harvey Weinstein was banned from the academy over his sexual abuse allegations and subsequent conviction. Cinematographer and actor Adam Kimmel was also banned due to a history of sex crimes, pleading guilty to raping a 15-year-old girl. Will Smith was banned for 10 years following the infamous Oscars Slapgate incident, where he slapped Rock for making a joke about his wife. Despite the ban, Smith was allowed to keep his Oscar for Best Actor.

Bill Cosby was banned for life in 2018 after being found guilty of drugging and sexually assaulting a woman. Carmine Caridi was the first person to be permanently banned from the Oscars in 2004 for illegally circulating VHS tapes. Richard Gere was banned for 20 years in 1993 for speaking out about human rights abuses in Tibet, but his ban was lifted in 2003.

Additionally, French-Polish director Roman Polanski faced a lifetime ban in 2018 for his conviction of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. These celebrities have all faced consequences for their actions, leading to their exclusion from the prestigious awards show.
