Nearly €5,000 paid for rare Beatles record discovered in charity shop

A rare and valuable Beatles vinyl record has been discovered in a charity shop in London by manager Jaime-Marie Madden. The vinyl turned out to be a first pressing from the original masters of the Fab Four’s debut studio LP ‘Please Please Me’, released in 1963. The album’s unique gold and black label bumped up its value significantly, leading to a winning bid of £4,211.89 (€4,928.33) on eBay.

Madden, who works at a Cancer Research UK charity shop, was able to spot the value of the record and ensure it was sold for a high price to support cancer research. The find has been hailed by vinyl record valuation expert Mike Kuklenko as an “incredibly rare record.”

The discovery has shed light on the valuable nature of certain Beatles albums, with some becoming sought-after collector’s items. Among the rarest and most expensive Beatles albums are ‘Yesterday and Today’ with its controversial “Butcher” cover, ‘That’ll Be the Day’ by The Quarrymen, and ‘The White Album’ with its first pressing featuring individual serial numbers for each band member.

The story of the rare Beatles vinyl found in a London charity shop serves as a reminder to music collectors everywhere to keep an eye out for valuable records that could be hidden in unexpected places. It also highlights the importance of donations to charity shops, as they can sometimes turn into significant contributions towards important causes like cancer research.
