Country music icon Garth Brooks recently opened a new honky tonk bar in Nashville called Friends In Low Places, with the vision of creating a world-class establishment reminiscent of the classic honky tonks of the past. Describing it as the “Chick-fil-A of honky tonks,” Brooks highlighted the importance of creating a safe and welcoming environment with good manners and a “Love Everybody” mantra.
Despite Brooks’ desire for a classic honky tonk with traditional country music, reviews of Friends In Low Places have revealed that the music played at the bar is not strictly country. While some patrons have enjoyed the mix of country, rock, and pop music, others have expressed disappointment in not hearing the classic country tunes that Brooks had envisioned.
The four-story venue, which had its grand opening recently, features a large stage, LED screen, and two-story palm trees surrounding the dance floor. While it may not meet the strict definition of a classic honky tonk, Friends In Low Places is not the least country bar in downtown Nashville either.
Overall, the feedback on the bar’s music selection has been mixed, with some patrons enjoying the variety while others were hoping for a more traditional country music experience. As Friends In Low Places continues to welcome visitors, it remains to be seen if the establishment will fully embody Brooks’ vision of a classic honky tonk.
