Knox County residents express worries about ‘Advance Knox’ initiative and proposed land use map during commission workshop

Knox County Commissioners held a workshop to discuss the Advance Knox land use and transportation plan that aims to guide development as the population grows. The plan has been in the works for over two years and has received approval from the Knox County Commission pending approval of the future land use map by the Knoxville-Knox County Planning Commission. The meeting included a public forum where concerns were raised about preserving farmland and addressing climate change.

Commissioner Kim Frazier emphasized the importance of listening to citizen feedback and making necessary changes to the plan. The Knox County Commission is set to vote on the comprehensive land use map on April 22. However, the plan still needs approval from the City of Knoxville and Farragut Board of Mayor and Aldermen. If either city does not approve the plan, it will not be adopted. The Knoxville City Council is scheduled to vote on March 5, while the Farragut Board of Mayor and Aldermen will vote on March 28.

The comprehensive Knox County land use plan has been a lengthy process that has involved input from residents and advocacy groups. The goal of the plan is to ensure that development in the county is guided in a sustainable and responsible manner as the population continues to increase. Through workshops and public forums, county commissioners have been working to address concerns and make necessary adjustments to the plan before final approval.
