A group of political strategists and fundraisers have launched a new initiative in Tennessee called The Best of Tennessee to address what they see as a dysfunctional political environment and ideological extremism in the state. Led by Chloe Akers and Kim Kaegi, the group aims to support moderate candidates of any political party who exhibit strong, principled leadership. The initiative includes a nonprofit, The Best of Tennessee, Inc., to engage voters, as well as a political action committee and Super PAC. Their goal is to engage disenfranchised voters and back candidates committed to advancing common-sense solutions.
The idea for The Best of Tennessee was born out of frustration with legislative dysfunction, sparked by controversial laws like the state’s new abortion law and a lack of government accountability. The group believes that the current political system is broken and that there is a need for reasonable representation in office. They have already raised over $660,000 and are evaluating candidates based on their leadership qualities rather than their specific policy positions.
The launch of The Best of Tennessee comes at a critical time, just before the filing deadline for both Democratic and Republican primaries. The group is focused on engaging with the frustrated majority of Tennesseans who feel alienated by hyperpolarized politics. With the support of prominent political figures like Tom Ingram and philanthropist Susan Simons, The Best of Tennessee hopes to bring about positive change in the state’s political landscape.
