Angelina Jolie is claiming in legal filings that Brad Pitt’s abuse began before a 2016 incident on a private jet where he was allegedly violent towards her and their children. Jolie’s lawyers are seeking communications related to a nondisclosure agreement Pitt wanted her to sign during their ongoing legal battle over a French winery they once owned. They accuse Pitt of controlling and financially draining Jolie, as well as attempting to hide his history of abuse and cover-up. Pitt has not responded to these claims.
The winery dispute arose from a lawsuit by Pitt alleging Jolie’s sale of her stake was illegal, which she denied. Jolie’s team claims that Pitt backed out of buying her shares after she filed evidence of domestic violence in their custody battle. This led to Pitt attempting to make her sign an expanded NDA covering his personal misconduct. The dispute escalated after Jolie alleged abuse on the 2016 flight, where Pitt was accused of grabbing, insulting, and physically assaulting her and their children.
Despite investigations by the FBI and LA County Department of Children and Family Services, Pitt was not charged with any crimes related to the incident on the private jet. Jolie and Pitt share six children and have been embroiled in a custody battle since their divorce in 2019. Resources such as the National Domestic Violence Hotline and Safe Horizon are available for victims of domestic violence to seek help and support in situations of abuse.
