Jacob Flickinger, a US-Canadian aid worker, was killed in a strike on a World Central Kitchen convoy in Gaza. Israel’s military apologised for the attack, calling it a tragic mistake, but Flickinger’s parents rejected the apology, calling his death a “crime.” His parents described him as a devoted family man and aid worker who went to Gaza to help others.
Flickinger’s parents called for an explanation from Israel and urged the US to stop sending military aid while food was being used as a weapon. They also called for a ceasefire, the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas, and more aid for Gaza. Flickinger’s father called for an independent investigation into the killings of humanitarian workers and for Israel to pay reparations to victims’ families.
The World Central Kitchen, founded by chef Jose AndrĂ©s, was a major aid provider in Gaza, where over 33,000 Palestinians have been killed since Hamas attacks. About 200 humanitarian workers have been killed in the conflict. Flickinger’s parents, grieving the loss of their son, hope that their grandchild Jasper will serve as a reminder of Jacob’s goodness and continue to inspire them to stay strong. They called for justice, an end to the violence, and support for those affected by the conflict.
