British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak took to the cricket field on Friday to play against England’s legendary fast bowler, James Anderson, in a friendly game. Sunak also interacted with other players of the England cricket team, signing autographs and taking pictures with budding cricketers. Sunak shared a video of the cricket session on social media, jokingly asking if he was ready for a call-up to the England cricket team.
In the video, Sunak is seen bantering with Anderson, asking if he is ready to bowl and jokingly asking if he will go easy on him. Anderson, a highly respected player in the cricket world, has played in numerous matches and taken hundreds of wickets in his career. Sunak also announced a 35 million pounds package to support grassroots cricket and help young people get into the game.
The investment will primarily go into the construction of all-weather domes in cities hosting T20 World Cup matches in 2026 and 2030, with the aim of encouraging more young people to play cricket. Both England and Wales are set to host the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup, while England, Scotland, and Ireland will host the 2030 men’s edition. Sunak expressed his love for cricket and his joy in supporting more young people to take up the sport. The friendly cricket session between Sunak and Anderson received positive responses on social media, further boosting the popularity of the sport in the UK.
