Russian forces launched a drone attack on Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, prompting the UN atomic watchdog to warn of a potential major nuclear accident. This marks the first attack on the plant since 2022 and has escalated the nuclear safety and security risks. The IAEA chief called the attack reckless and urged for an immediate cessation to prevent a catastrophic accident.
In response, Ukrainian President Zelensky warned that without US military aid, Ukraine may lose the war against Russia. He emphasized the importance of international support to repel Moscow’s invasion.
Additionally, Russia launched 24 drones overnight targeting critical infrastructure in southern and eastern Ukraine. The Ukrainian Air Force managed to destroy 17 drones and a missile, preventing casualties. The attack damaged a gas station and logistics facility.
Zelensky also pleaded with Western allies for ammunition supplies to counter Russian attacks, especially in cities like Kharkiv. He stressed the need for increased air defense systems in Ukraine and gratitude for countries that have provided support.
As tensions continue to escalate, the international community faces tough decisions on how to support Ukraine in resisting Putin’s aggression. The British public stands in solidarity with Ukrainians, and calls are made for increased defense spending and strategic responses to prevent further setbacks like the retreat from Avdiivka. Ukraine denied involvement in the incidents at the Zaporizhzhia power plant, attributing them to Russian provocations.
