Strong winds moving through East Tennessee on Friday caused power outages for thousands of people in the area. The Knoxville Utilities Board reported over 3,700 people without power due to the strong winds. Additionally, the Harriman Utility Board and Plateau Electric Corporation reported outages affecting over 1,294 customers in the Oakdale area and nearly 650 outages near Sunbright, Burrville, and Deer Lodge.
Wind speeds in Knoxville reached approximately 40 miles per hour with the highest wind speed recorded at 49 miles per hour at McGhee Tyson Airport. The outages were caused by the strong winds moving through the area, with utility providers working to restore power to affected customers. As a result of the outages, some areas experienced disruptions in their daily routines due to the lack of electricity.
Customers affected by the outages were encouraged to report any power issues to their utility providers and remained patient while crews worked to restore power. The situation serves as a reminder of the impact that severe weather conditions can have on communities and the importance of being prepared for such events.
