French First Lady Brigitte Macron is preparing to go to trial in Paris to fight against a conspiracy theory suggesting she was born a man. The rumors, which began with two French Internet influencers, claim that Brigitte’s birth name was Jean-Michel Trogneux and she transitioned in the 1980s. These claims have spread through social media, including a tweet by American commentator Candace Owens. Brigitte’s husband, French President Emmanuel Macron, has vehemently denied these allegations as false and fabricated.
The trial, set for June, will pit Brigitte against the accuser Natacha Rey, who suggests powerful members of the French establishment are hiding Brigitte’s true identity. Macron has defended his wife, expressing his frustration with the “false information and fabricated scenarios” that have arisen around Brigitte.
The conspiracy theory made its way to public attention in December 2021 and gained traction when Owens tweeted about it. While many in France question the Macrons’ decision to sue, others are supportive of their efforts to fight back against the harmful rumors. Brigitte’s daughter, Tiphaine Auzaine, has also spoken out against the painful impact of the accusations on her family. Despite evidence disproving the claims, the accuser, Roy, remains steadfast in her beliefs and is urging Brigitte to take a DNA test to prove her identity.
The trial, scheduled for June, will shed light on the impact of false information and conspiracy theories on public figures and their families.
