Knoxville, Tenn. – In a highly anticipated matchup, the fourth-ranked Tennessee Volunteers secured a 6-3 victory over the No. 25 LSU Tigers at Lindsey Nelson Stadium on Friday night. Tennessee’s AJ Causey delivered an outstanding performance, pitching 4.2 scoreless innings to help his team improve to 28-6 overall and 8-5 in the SEC. LSU, on the other hand, fell to 22-13 overall and 3-10 in conference play.
Causey, who moved to 6-2 on the season, was supported by Kirby Connell, who notched his second save of the year. LSU’s Gage Jump suffered the loss after allowing five runs on five hits in 4.0 innings.
The game saw a two-run homer by Tennessee’s Billy Amick in the first inning, followed by a strong offensive performance by the Vols in the third and fifth innings. LSU managed to rally in the ninth, scoring two runs, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
