Capitals lose Nick Jensen to injury, stretchered off the ice

Washington Capitals defenseman Nick Jensen was injured during Saturday’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning after being shoved into the boards by Michael Eyssimont. Jensen hit his head and had to be taken off the ice on a stretcher, but the Capitals later confirmed that he was conscious and alert with full use of his extremities. Capitals coach Spencer Carbery said Jensen walked out of the building with his family and did not need to go to the hospital.

Eyssimont received a major penalty for the hit on Jensen, but no additional penalties were called after a video review. The game continued after a delay caused by the injury, with Nic Dowd scoring a goal for the Capitals in the second period. Dowd, who was Jensen’s college teammate, expressed concern for his friend and was glad to hear that he was doing better.

Despite the challenging circumstances, the Capitals were able to stay composed and secure a 4-2 victory, moving them into the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. Dowd praised his team for their resilience in the face of adversity and commended their ability to push through and secure the win.
