Germany has announced that it will supply Ukraine with a Patriot air defence system and missiles in response to ongoing Russian bombardment of critical infrastructure. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked German Chancellor Olaf Scholz for the decision and called on other partner states to follow suit. This marks Germany’s third delivery of a Patriot system to Ukraine, making it the country’s second-largest supplier of military aid after the US.
On the eastern front, the situation has worsened according to Ukraine’s commander-in-chief Oleksandr Syrskii, with Russia claiming the capture of a village near Avdiivka. Ukraine has not confirmed the loss but has reported repelling attacks in the region. Syrskii mentioned plans to bolster defence areas with electronic warfare and air defence due to increased enemy offensives after Russia’s presidential elections.
In a separate incident, a shelling in southern Zaporizhia region killed 10 people, including children. Ukrainian authorities in the region reported over 400 attacks by Russia in the past day, including from planes. The town of Chasiv Yar, located west of Bakhmut, is under constant fire, as Russia continues to secure gains and advance against Ukrainian forces hindered by delayed Western military aid.
The ongoing conflict in Ukraine continues to escalate, with Germany’s support providing much-needed air defence capabilities as Russia intensifies attacks on critical infrastructure and civilian populations. The situation on the ground remains tense, with both sides engaged in fierce battles for territorial control.
