Liberty edges out Softball in ninth inning of series finale


The Middle Tennessee softball team (18-27, 5-13) lost in a series finale to Liberty (26-16, 15-3) after nine innings of play. Ansley Blevins hit a two-run home run in the first inning, her 13th of the season which ties the program record. Despite a one-run lead after the fourth inning, Liberty managed to tie the game in the sixth. The game went into extra innings where Liberty took a one-run lead in the ninth with a solo home run. Shelby Echols recorded two hits and a run scored while Mary Martinez pitched 8.0 innings, allowing only two earned runs and recording two strikeouts.

Blevins’ 13 home runs are the second most in CUSA, while her nine in league play lead CUSA. Echols leads CUSA with 48 hits, and the Blue Raiders have hit a total of 41 home runs this season, tying the program record. Next, Middle Tennessee will face Tennessee State on Wednesday.
