Italy, the current president of the G7 major democracies, is considering new sanctions against individuals involved in attacks against Israel. This comes after Iran launched an attack on Israel in retaliation for an attack on its embassy compound in Damascus. Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani stated that any new sanctions would need the support of all G7 members and would likely target individuals rather than entire nations. Tajani called the Iranian attack a mistake for Tehran but a positive revelation of Israel’s air defence capabilities. The G7 has condemned the attack and urged Tehran to show restraint. The United States has warned Israel against launching a counteroffensive. Tajani praised both Iran and Israel for their responses to the incident.
