The United Nations has called on Israel to protect Palestinians in the occupied West Bank from increasing attacks by settlers. The call comes after two Palestinians were shot dead by Israeli settlers and one Palestinian was killed by settlers in a separate incident. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights spokesperson emphasized Israel’s duty as the occupying power to ensure public safety and order in the West Bank. The escalating violence, with 466 Palestinians killed by Israeli forces or settlers since October 7, has raised serious concerns. The UN is launching a $2.8bn appeal for donations to help Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, with the majority of the budget allocated for Gaza. Human rights organizations are urging the international community and businesses to take action to stop the violence against Palestinians. Al-Haq found that settler attacks have doubled, leading to more Palestinian displacements due to settlement expansion at its highest level since 2017. The situation has prompted the UN to call for urgent action to address the humanitarian crisis and protect the rights of Palestinians in the region.
