Yaorong Wan, a 49-year-old man from Queens, has been charged with two counts of grand larceny for stealing a $225,500 diamond ring from a Tiffany store in Manhattan’s Rockefeller Center, as well as a $24,000 diamond ring from a Cartier store in the Hudson Yards complex. Wan replaced the expensive ring with a fake cubic zirconia stone, which closely resembles a diamond. Surveillance footage from the Tiffany store showed Wan switching the rings by discreetly concealing the real one in his hand. Wan is also wanted in Nassau County, New Jersey, Florida, California, and South Korea for similar jewelry thefts. He was arrested on Friday and appeared in Manhattan criminal court on Saturday. Wan’s attorney did not immediately respond to requests for comment. His next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday in New York City Criminal Court.
