Rutherford County Schools Director, James “Jimmy” Sullivan, provided an update on his youngest son Asher after the boy was critically injured when he was sucked into a storm drain. Sullivan shared on social media that doctors initially believed Asher wouldn’t survive his injuries but there were some signs of activity that gave the family hope. Asher was playing with other children in water that had accumulated on the street after storms when he got caught in the storm drain and was swept under the neighborhood streets.
Since the incident, there has been an outpouring of support from the community with over 500 people attending a prayer vigil for Asher and the Sullivan family in front of the Rutherford County Schools central office. School Board member, Tammy Sharp, expressed faith in a miracle for Asher and urged people to continue praying for him.
Sullivan has requested privacy for his family and has asked for people to respect the privacy of the hospital where Asher is being treated. Despite the grim initial prognosis, the community is hopeful for a miracle and keeping their faith that Asher will survive. Sullivan also shared that Asher is not showing signs of brain activity and is not breathing on his own.
The family is grateful for the support and prayers they have received and Sullivan has promised to provide updates on social media when needed. The community continues to rally around Asher, hoping for his recovery and sending thoughts and prayers to the Sullivan family during this difficult time.
