The top-ranked Tennessee baseball team secured an 8-4 victory against No. 25/NR Vanderbilt in a series opener at Hawkins Field in Nashville. A two-run home run by Kavares Tears in the eighth inning sparked a five-run rally for the Vols after falling behind in the sixth inning. Relief pitcher AJ Causey recorded his ninth win of the season with a strong performance, striking out seven batters and allowing only one walk over 6.1 innings.
Chris Stamos also had a solid outing, pitching 2.2 innings and setting a career-high with five strikeouts. The offense was led by Dylan Dreiling, who went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in, and Christian Moore, who hit a leadoff home run. Vanderbilt’s Miller Green took the loss after giving up three runs in just a third of an inning of relief.
With this win, Tennessee extended its win streak against Vanderbilt to eight games, dating back to 1994. The Vols will aim for their eighth straight SEC series win in the upcoming match against Vanderbilt. The game is set for Saturday afternoon at Hawkins Field and will be televised on the SEC Network at 3 p.m. ET. Tennessee’s victory was a testament to their resilience and ability to rally late in the game to secure the win.
