Adam Lambert has re-recorded and remixed his hit song “Whataya Want From Me,” changing the lyric back to its original form of “he messed me up.” The song was originally intended for Pink but ended up with Lambert, who changed the pronoun due to industry pressure. Now, almost 15 years later, Lambert is reclaiming the song and embracing his true self as a queer artist. While he faced challenges in the music industry in the past, Lambert hopes to pave the way for other LGBTQ+ artists by being authentic and true to himself. The change in the song’s lyric was well-received by its original producers, Max Martin and Shellback, who gave their blessing. Lambert’s release of the remix comes ahead of Pride Month, where he will perform at WeHo Pride in LA with Kesha. Lambert reflects on the progress made by the LGBTQ+ community but acknowledges the setbacks that have occurred in recent years. Despite the challenges, Lambert encourages other artists to “roll with the punches” and continue to be proud of who they are. He believes that shining brightly and proudly as a queer community is beautiful and should be celebrated, as love is at the heart of their identity.
