Kami Rita Sherpa from Nepal makes history by summiting Mt Everest for the 29th time, surpassing his own record | International News

Nepali Sherpa climber Kami Rita has achieved a remarkable feat by scaling Mount Everest for the 29th time, surpassing his previous record of 28 ascents. Known as the ‘Everest man,’ Kami Rita embarked on this expedition with a team of approximately 28 climbers organized by Seven Summit Treks. Born into the Sherpa community at the foothills of Everest, Kami Rita started as a porter before becoming a climbing guide and completed his first Everest ascent in 1994.

Throughout the years, Kami Rita has consistently conquered Everest, with Guinness World Records recognizing his achievement of 29 ascents. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, he managed to add to his tally by achieving his 25th summit in 2021. By 2023, he had broken the record he shared with another guide, Pasang Dawa Sherpa, by completing his 28th climb.

Mount Everest, also known as Sagarmatha in Nepal, stands at 8,848.86 meters above sea level, making it the tallest peak on Earth. The joint efforts of Chinese and Nepalese surveyors in 2020 reported an increase in Everest’s height from the previously recorded 8,848 meters. On May 29, 1953, New Zealand’s Edmund Hillary and Nepali Sherpa Tenzing Norgay were the first to reach Everest’s summit, marking a historic moment in climbing history.

Kami Rita’s latest achievement has solidified his place in the record books, further cementing his legacy as one of the most accomplished climbers of all time.
