Actor Steve Buscemi was assaulted while walking in the Kips Bay neighborhood of New York City. He was punched in the face by an unidentified individual and was taken to the hospital for treatment of swelling to his face and left eye. The assailant fled the scene and has not been apprehended by authorities. Buscemi’s representative confirmed the incident and stated that he is appreciative of everyone’s well wishes.
In a separate incident, Buscemi’s “Boardwalk Empire” co-star Michael Stuhlbarg was also a victim of assault in New York City. Stuhlbarg was attacked with a rock by a 27-year-old man, causing an abrasion on the back of his neck. The attacker was taken into custody and charged with assault. Stuhlbarg refused medical attention at the scene and still performed in the Broadway show “Patriots” the following day.
These incidents highlight the random acts of violence that can occur in the city and have raised concerns about safety on the streets of New York. Both Buscemi and Stuhlbarg were targeted in separate attacks, with the perpetrators still at large in one case.
