Former President Donald Trump attended a campaign rally in New Jersey after a week of court proceedings in New York. He continued his usual talking points of criticizing Joe Biden, discussing an open border, and complaining about political witch hunts. However, he also made disparaging comments about Manhattan District Attorney Allan Bragg and unexpectedly praised the fictional serial killer Hannibal Lecter from “The Silence of the Lambs.” Trump compared migrants to Hannibal Lecter at a previous rally and referenced the character again in New Jersey. Nearly 100,000 people reportedly attended the rally in New Jersey, but videos showed many walking out during Trump’s 90-minute speech. Despite claims of a massive crowd, an aerial photo shared by Trump ally Roger Stone was actually from a 1994 concert in Brazil, not from the rally. Trump’s comments about Hannibal Lecter and the attendance at the rally sparked controversy and raised questions about the true magnitude of his support.
