Germany manager Nagelsmann chooses to overlook Hummels and instead opts to stick with his usual starting XI for Euro 2024 | UEFA Euro 2024 Updates

Germany’s national football coach Julian Nagelsmann has selected a mostly unchanged squad for the 2024 Euros, ignoring late claims from Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels and Julian Brandt. Despite their key roles in Dortmund’s run to the Champions League final, Nagelsmann opted to stick with the team that had previously beaten France and the Netherlands in March.

The squad does not include Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka or the injured Serge Gnabry, with the final squad set to be reduced to 26 players after June friendlies against Ukraine and Greece. After a poor 2023 performance that led to coach Hansi Flick’s dismissal, Nagelsmann made significant changes for the March friendlies, resulting in impressive victories over France and the Netherlands.

In addition to the previously announced squad members, Nagelsmann has added Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck and Stuttgart’s Alex Nubel while also including Leroy Sane, who missed the March friendlies due to injury. The announcement was made in Berlin, featuring three members of Germany’s 2014 World Cup-winning team: Manuel Neuer, Thomas Mueller, and Toni Kroos.

Germany will face Scotland in their Euro 2024 opener in Munich on June 14 and will enter a pre-tournament training camp in Blankenhain from May 26 to June 1. Four squad members playing in the Champions League final on June 1 will join the team after the match. Germany will also play friendlies against Ukraine and Greece in preparation for the tournament.
