In a thrilling matchup, No. 1/1 Tennessee’s baseball team secured a 9-3 victory over No. 23/24 South Carolina. Christian Moore, the junior slugger for the Volunteers, set a new single-season home run record for the team with 26 home runs, surpassing Sonny Cortez’s record of 24 set in 1998. Moore led the team with three hits and three runs scored in the game.
Tennessee’s Kavares Tears and Dylan Dreiling also contributed with home runs in the win, as the team recorded their 18th game this season with four or more long balls. Billy Amick and Blake Burke also had strong performances at the plate, driving in runs for the Big Orange.
Pitcher AJ Causey earned the win, improving his record to 10-3 on the year with a solid relief outing, striking out eight batters. Kirby Connell closed out the game with a scoreless relief appearance. South Carolina’s Ty Good suffered the loss after giving up six earned runs in four innings.
With Moore’s record-breaking performance, Tennessee now has had 15 multi-home run games from eight different players this season. The Vols and Gamecocks are set to face off again on Friday night in the next game of the series.
The victory marks Tennessee’s 20th SEC victory of the season, highlighting their dominant performance in conference play. The team continues to show their strength and skill as they advance through the season.
