Scottie Scheffler updates: World No.1 tees off round after receiving police attention at 2024 PGA Championship

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler made headlines at the PGA Championship in Louisville, Ky. after being arrested for second-degree assault of a police officer. Scheffler was released just three hours later and rushed to the Valhalla Golf Club for his tee time, arriving less than an hour before he was set to play. The traffic around the course was congested due to a fatal crash that killed a pedestrian, leading to delays in the tournament schedule.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Darlington, Scheffler was arrested after attempting to drive around the halted traffic when an officer instructed him to stop. Despite initially ignoring the officer’s orders, Scheffler eventually complied and was placed in handcuffs and escorted to the police car. He was charged with multiple offenses including second-degree assault of a police officer, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals.

Scheffler’s original tee time was pushed back due to the accident, but he was able to make it to the course in time for his second round. The defending Masters champion had shot an impressive opening round of 67 and was tied for 12th place going into Friday’s play. Despite the early morning incident, Scheffler remained focused on his game and continued to compete at the tournament. The circumstances surrounding his arrest added a bit of drama to an otherwise ordinary day at the PGA Championship.
