Tennessee Track & Field Shines at NCAA East Preliminary Rounds

The Tennessee track & field program had a remarkable showing at the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds, with 11 performances qualifying for the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Nine individuals earned spots in Eugene, Oregon, while both men’s relays secured automatic bids with season-best finishes at the University of Kentucky Track & Field Complex.

The men’s 4×400-meter relay set a school record with a time of 3:02.04, booking their trip to the national semifinals on June 5. The men’s 4×100-meter relay team also had a historic performance, finishing fifth overall and third in their heat with a time of 38.71 seconds.

In addition to the relay teams, nine athletes secured their spots at the national championships. Pole vaulter Sarah Schmitt, discus thrower Aron Alvarez Aranda, high jumper Grant Campbell, sprinters T’Mars McCallum and Emmanuel Bynum, as well as hurdlers Clement Ducos, Ja’Kwan Hale, and Rasheeme Griffith, all had standout performances.

The Tennessee team has shown its strength and depth in various event disciplines, with multiple athletes earning qualifying spots for the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The Vols continue to impress and will look to build on their success in Eugene. The final day of the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds will take place on Saturday, with Tennessee competing in nine events on the track. Fans can expect more thrilling performances from the Big Orange as they aim for excellence on the national stage.
