Tennessee Wraps Up First Round at NCAA Championships


The No. 5 Tennessee men’s golf team had a challenging start to the NCAA Championships, finishing the opening round in 24th place with a team score of 17-over. Evan Woosley-Reed led the way for the Vols, shooting 2-over and tied for 41st place. Redshirt freshman Bruce Murphy, redshirt sophomore Lance Simpson, redshirt senior Bryce Lewis, and Jake Hall also competed for Tennessee.

The team will have two more rounds of stroke play before the field is cut to 15 teams on Sunday. Currently, the Vols are seven shots outside the top 15 teams. Leading the overall leaderboard after the opening round are Virginia and Arizona, tied for first place with a score of 2-over.

In the individual standings, Woosley-Reed is tied for 41st, Murphy is tied for 81st, Simpson is tied for 97th, Lewis is tied for 112th, and Hall is tied for 135th.

Tennessee’s tee times for round two, starting on hole 10, are as follows: Lance Simpson at 10:02 am ET, Bruce Murphy at 10:13 am ET, Bryce Lewis at 10:24 am ET, Evan Woosley-Reed at 10:35 am ET, and Jake Hall at 10:46 am ET.

Despite a challenging start, the Vols are looking to improve their position in the leaderboard in the upcoming rounds and secure a spot in the top 15 teams.
