In a historic 14-inning game, Alabama defeated Tennessee 3-2 in the longest Super Regional game in college women’s softball history. Kristen White’s infield chopper with the bases loaded allowed Lauren Johnson to score the winning run in the bottom of the 14th inning. The win forced a third game between the two teams, with the winner advancing to face UCLA at the Women’s College World Series.
The game featured impressive pitching performances from Kayla Beaver of Alabama and Karlyn Pickens of Tennessee, who both threw over 120 pitches in relief. Despite Tennessee stranding 18 runners throughout the game, they managed to take a 2-1 lead before Alabama tied the game with a solo homer by Bailey Dowling in the fourth inning.
White’s stolen base in the 12th inning and subsequent out trying to steal third added to the excitement of the game. The intense back-and-forth battle between the two teams showcased their determination and resilience as they fought to keep their season alive.
