Cumberland County ranks among the cleanest of 9 counties in state audits | Local News

Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury, Jason Mumpower, recently announced that nine Tennessee counties have achieved a significant milestone by receiving clean audit reports for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2023. The counties, including Cumberland, Campbell, Cannon, Loudon, McMinn, Robertson, Sevier, Stewart, and Union, were recognized at the Tennessee County Services Association Legislative Conference in Gatlinburg for their efforts in maintaining strong accounting procedures and internal controls to protect public resources. This achievement is particularly commendable for Cumberland County, which has received a clean audit for three consecutive years. Additionally, Cannon, Campbell, and Sevier have received their second consecutive clean audits, while Loudon County has received a clean audit in six of the past seven fiscal years and Robertson County in four of the past five fiscal years.

The Comptroller’s Office audited a total of 91 Tennessee counties, with an average of 3.57 findings per county in fiscal year 2023, slightly higher than the previous year’s average of 3.38 findings. Comptroller Mumpower congratulated the nine counties for their dedication to ensuring accountability and transparency in government operations, emphasizing the importance of this accomplishment in securing public trust. The clean audit reports reflect the hard work and commitment of these counties to maintaining financial integrity and sound governance practices.
