Spanish journalist Jaime Peñafiel has released a new book titled “Letizia’s Silences” that alleges Queen Letizia of Spain cheated on her husband, King Felipe VI, with an old flame who was once her brother-in-law. According to Peñafiel, the queen rekindled her romance with Jamie del Burgo during a trip to New York in 2011, leaving Felipe devastated as he was reportedly aware of the affair in real time through Letizia’s bodyguards. Del Burgo, who was previously married to Letizia’s sister Telma Ortiz, was said to have been with Letizia before she met Felipe.
This is not the first time Peñafiel has written about Letizia’s alleged affair, as he previously published “Letizia and I,” where del Burgo revealed details about their relationship. Del Burgo claimed they had met in 2000 and had a relationship before Letizia married the king. He also mentioned that Letizia had met him the night before her wedding and expressed regret for not marrying him instead.
The alleged affair reportedly ended in 2011 when Letizia called del Burgo to inform him that they could no longer see each other. Despite this scandal, Letizia and Felipe have been married since 2004 and have two daughters together. Letizia, who was previously married to Alonso Guerrero Pérez, gave up her career as a television reporter when she got engaged to Felipe. Peñafiel’s book provides a deeper look into the personal life of the Spanish royals amidst the allegations of infidelity and betrayal.
