The owners of Mo’Bay Beignet Co., John & Theresa Monteleone, are transitioning the restaurant site, previously Penny’s Nitty Gritty, into a new concept. Many other Memphis restaurants have also faced closures, including Muggin Coffeehouse’s Whitehaven location, Chef Tam’s Underground Cafe, and Jerry’s Sno Cones in the Berclair/Nutbush neighborhood.
Memphis baker Chloe Sexton, owner of BluffCakes in Germantown, has become a TikTok sensation with her giant cookies. Guy Fieri visited Midtown Memphis restaurant Loaf in 2023, featuring chef Kale Carmon’s cuisine on “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.” Bounty on Broad, located in the Broad Avenue Arts District, serves up delicious dishes like eggplant lasagna and white wine poached flounder. Farm & Fig owner Dino Grisanti opened a new take-and-bake shop in Memphis and Hog Wild East – BBQ & Market also recently closed.
Furthermore, Bedrock Eats & Sweets owner Brandi Marter offers enticing options like chorizo and egg grilled cheese and gluten-free protein cinnamon roll waffles. Despite some closures, the Memphis dining scene continues to thrive with innovative concepts and delicious offerings.
