US States Ravaged by Severe Storms and Tornadoes

Severe weather caused at least 22 deaths in four states over the holiday weekend, with devastating storms reaching the mid-Atlantic and Northeast on Monday. While these areas are expected to see sunny skies and lower temperatures, the southern part of the country is experiencing record highs and a dangerous early-season heatwave. Hundreds of homes were destroyed by twisters and storms in Arkansas, Texas, Kentucky, and Oklahoma, with at least eight deaths reported in Arkansas, seven in Texas, five in Kentucky, and two in Oklahoma. More than 280,000 homes and businesses were without power on Monday evening.

Governors in affected states have declared states of emergency, with search and rescue missions underway. Relief organizations are also providing assistance to those affected by the severe weather. A Colorado rancher and 34 of his cattle were killed by a lightning strike over the weekend. Tornado warnings and severe thunderstorm watches have been issued in various states, with the storm expected to move east on Memorial Day. Parts of Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina were under tornado warnings, while New York City experienced delays in air travel due to severe weather.

Overall, the severe storms and tornadoes have left a trail of destruction in their wake, impacting communities across multiple states and causing significant damage.
