Belmont University in Nashville has recently installed two Solid State Logic ORIGIN 32-channel analogue mixing consoles in its Quonset Hut and Columbia Studio A, continuing its trend of using the same console across all of its main student facilities. This move aims to enhance consistency and efficiency in teaching production techniques without students having to learn a new console every term. The school also utilizes SSL’s E Series Dynamics Modules in three of its studio classrooms. The school’s Chair of Audio Engineering Technology, Michael Janas, highlights the modern signal flow of the ORIGIN consoles compared to older models, emphasizing the convenience of direct outputs.
Students at Belmont University are benefitting from the creative possibilities enabled by the ORIGIN consoles, with separate inserts on each fader path allowing for experimentation with effects without affecting the recording. The PureDrive™ microphone preamp also allows for a range of sounds from clean to warm. The school’s facilities at Quonset Hut and Columbia Studio A are equipped with similar setups, with the only major difference being the acoustic signature of the live rooms. The studios have a rich history on Nashville’s Music Row, previously hosting influential artists such as Tammy Wynette, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, and more.
