The top-seeded Tennessee Volunteers secured a spot in the College World Series with a dominant 12-1 victory over Evansville in the championship game of the Knoxville Super Regional. Christian Moore and Dalton Bargo each hit two home runs to power the Volunteers to their second consecutive CWS appearance and seventh overall. Tennessee has never won the event but is looking to change that this year.
Despite falling behind early, Tennessee quickly turned the tide with a flurry of home runs, including three in the fourth inning. Zander Sechrist pitched a solid 6 1/3 innings to earn the win for the Volunteers. Moore and Amick both reached significant milestones with Moore setting a single-season team record with 32 home runs and Amick hitting his 20th of the season in the regional opener.
The Volunteers have been a dominant force all season, losing back-to-back games only once. Their powerful offense set a single-season home run record with 173 total home runs. Evansville’s Kip Fougerousse also had a standout performance with his school-record 22nd home run of the season in a previous game.
Tennessee’s impressive performance in the Knoxville Super Regional has fans excited for their upcoming appearance in the College World Series as they aim to capture their first-ever title.
