Dornoch, a 17-1 long shot, won the 156th running of the Belmont Stakes at Saratoga Race Course. Luis Saez, the jockey, controlled the pace and secured his second career Belmont Stakes victory. It was trainer Danny Gargan’s first Belmont win, and co-owner Jayson Werth, a former MLB All-Star, described it as one of the biggest achievements in sports. Dornoch held off a strong field, including Kentucky Derby and Preakness winners. The favorite, Sierra Leone, finished third. The race was held at Saratoga Race Course due to renovations at Belmont Park, with a distance of 1¼ miles instead of the usual 1½ miles. The last six years have seen different horses winning each Triple Crown race, the longest streak since 1924-29. Despite a disappointing performance in the Kentucky Derby, Dornoch showcased his potential in the Belmont Stakes. The race had different payouts, with Dornoch winning at $37.40, Mindframe placing at $6.80, and Sierra Leone showing at $2.60. The exacta, trifecta, and superfecta also had significant payouts. There were Daily Double, Pick 3, Pick 4, Pick 5, and Pick 6 betting options with varying payouts depending on the combinations chosen. The race is set to return to Belmont Park in 2026, reverting to the traditional 1½-mile distance.
