State demands revocation of bond for Tennessee woman who murdered newborn twins in 2011

Lindsey Lowe, a mother from Sumner County, Tennessee, who was convicted of suffocating her newborn twins shortly after their birth in 2011, is fighting to stay out of jail. After serving almost a decade of a life sentence, Lowe was granted a new trial in 2022 and released on a $75,000 bond. The reason for the new trial was an alleged biased juror and poor legal representation during her original trial. However, a recent ruling by the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals stated there was no evidence of bias and Lowe should not have been granted post-conviction relief.

During her original trial in 2013, Lowe’s defense claimed that she had convinced herself she wasn’t pregnant and that nobody knew about it, including her own family. Her father, Mark Lowe, testified that he did not know his daughter was pregnant. Lowe was found guilty of the double murder in 2013 after one of the newborn twins was discovered hidden in a laundry basket by her mother.

Prosecutors are now seeking to revoke Lowe’s bond, arguing that she is not entitled to freedom while awaiting the outcome of her appeal to the state Supreme Court. Despite the state’s efforts to revoke her bond, Lowe’s attorney argues that the motion was filed tardily and that the state missed several opportunities to contest her bond in the past week. Lindsey Lowe’s case continues to unfold as she fights to avoid returning to jail for the murder of her newborn twins.
